Hazardous Area Classification
Hazardous area classification is the process of identifying where a flammable gas cloud or combustible dust cloud could occur and then assigning those locations a zone and extent so the appropriate equipment and controls, in addition to the necessary work practices are used.
Hazardous area classification answers three practical questions:
-
Where could an explosive atmosphere exist?
-
How often / how long could it exist?
-
How far could it spread?
The outcome of the Hazardous Area Classification process usually produces:
-
A zoning drawing showing boundaries.
-
A basis of safety describing releases, ventilation, and assumptions.
-
Equipment requirements: EPL/category, temperature class, dust group, IP rating.
HazardZoneExpress
HazardZoneExpress is a new software from Advanced Analysis, designed for rapid hazardous area zoning and equipment marking checks. It is designed to check electrical equipment compliance according to IEC60079, AS/NZS60079 and ATEX/DESAR requirements.
Hazardous Area Classification Workflow and Features
Simply load a PDF, mark zones visually, import an equipment checklist CSV, and place equipment directly onto the drawing to instantly show Placed Zone and Compliance status.
