Professional Training in Fire,
Explosion, Dispersion and
Accident Investigation for
Major Hazard Facilities
Advanced Analysis delivers highly technical, practitioner-level courses for engineers, safety professionals and operators responsible for facilities handling flammable, toxic and explosive materials
These courses combine physics, consequence modelling, real accident investigations and hands-on CFD modelling using exploCFD
What Makes These Courses Different
These are not theoretical safety courses.
They are built from real accident investigations, real modelling studies and real major hazard facility problems.
• BESS explosion and fire risk: understanding lithium battery fire propagation, gas release and explosion risk in confined systems
• Gas explosion physics and modelling: from fundamentals to CFD consequence analysis
• Dust explosion science: ignition, dispersion, confinement and mitigation
• Oil mist, metal and unconventional explosions: accidents involving materials not normally considered explosive
• Gas dispersion modelling: analytical and CFD approaches for flammable and toxic releases
• Fire and gas detection effectiveness: placement, coverage, ESD and blowdown interaction
• Explosion structural response: quick engineering methods to assess wall and building loading
• Bowtie prevention and mitigation in practice: ventilation, layout, inventory segmentation, ignition control
• Accident investigation using NFPA 921 methodology: what to look for, how to identify root causes
• Hands-on exploCFD modelling workshops: build, run and interpret real models
• Comparison with other consequence software: understanding limitations and assumptions
Flagship Course
Fire and Explosion: Fundamentals, Modelling and Accident Investigation (3 Days)
This intensive three-day course takes attendees from the physics of fires and explosions through to consequence quantification, accident investigation and hands-on CFD modelling.

The course is built around real accident cases and real modelling studies performed for offshore platforms, onshore plants, LNG facilities and processing plants worldwide.
What is covered
• Physics of fires, explosions, confinement and congestion
• Risk, consequence, exceedance curves and QRA linkage
• Both sides of the Bowtie: prevention and mitigation in real facilities
• NFPA 921 accident investigation methodology
• Real gas, dust, oil mist and metal explosion investigations
• Structural response to explosion loads
• Analytical vs CFD explosion modelling
• Hands-on exploCFD workshops using real case
Who is this for
• Process Safety Engineers
• Asset Managers
• HSEQ Professionals
• Operators and Consultants
• Senior Operations Managers
The course requires a background in engineering preferably with some experience with major hazard facilities which contain large inventories of flammable or toxic materials
Specialised Courses / Webinars
Accident Investigations: Things You Never Thought Would Explode (Webinar)
Case-based webinar exploring explosion accidents involving crude oil, metals, dusts and materials not normally considered explosive.
Specialised Courses / Webinars
exploCFD Consequence Modelling Training (On-site)
For exploCFD annual or permanent license holders, Advanced Analysis delivers on-site, hands-on training covering the complete workflow for dispersion and explosion consequence modelling.

Attendees are encouraged to bring real project problems which are worked through during the course. After training, clients are supported through their first simulation projects to ensure robust and consistent modelling practice.
